Visiting Jimmy’s and Omar’s Olivewood Shops

This evening we went outside the Old City to visit our shop friends, Jimmy and Omar.  These two shops have been selling to BYU students for years.  They were here in 1979 when I was a student.  They are kind and good men and they have some beautiful things.  We had a couple of friends ask us to bring Nativities back for them, so we had some shopping to do.

After picking Nativities for our friends, we fell in love with this beautiful artistic Nativity and decided it should come home with us.

The pieces from this set were all carved from one tree.  The grain is exquisite and the faces are beautiful.  We especially loved the woman shepherd.  Jimmy was happy to send it to a good home.

This is Omar.  He also has beautifully carved pieces.  We really enjoyed visiting with each of them.

They recommended a favorite local restaurant for our Christmas Day Feast!  We started with a spread of appetizers dips and pita.

Then the main course–kebabs, fries and rice with more pita.

But our Christmas Day was still not over.  It was raining hard and we had to run back to the Old City and to our Austrian Hospice for a special Christmas Concert in the small salon.  We made it just in time!
