HAPPY NEW YEAR!! What a great place to be to get this year underway. Today we traveled with the group to Caesarea National Park and the Aqueduct Beach where we learned about the things the Romans did here. It’s amazing that so much is still standing.
We visited the amphitheater and the palace. In 58 AD, the Apostle Paul was accused of causing a riot and he was sent here to be tried by the governor. Being a Roman citizen he sailed to Rome from this harbor. There he was tried and executed a few years later
This was once a beautiful seaside palace.
The Apostle Paul’s words:
Here is the place where they had the chariot races–a big track with stone bleacher seats on the sides for the spectators. This arena reminded me of the chariot race scene in Ben Hur.
It’s not hard to imagine the stone bleachers fill with loud spectators.
This aqueduct, built by Herod the Great, carried water to Caesarea from natural springs about 10 km away.
This is up on top of the aqueduct where water flowed through the trough.
