On New Year’s Morning for as long as I can remember we’ve awakened (after a raucous evening of ringing Swiss cow bells) to the sound of football on TV. My mother always got up to watch the Rose Bowl Parade. She grew up near Pasadena, CA and helped work on those flowered floats every year. She attended Pasadena College before heading to UC Davis, then UCLA. She loved the Rose Bowl Parade.
One of the reasons she loved it so much is because her sister, Marilyn was the Rose Queen in 1955. Marilyn was always so proud of that honor. For years and years she attended luncheons for past queens, always the highlight of her year. Marilyn still lives in California. I’m sure she’s watching the Parade right now too.
