Last night, John, Claire and I worked on our food assignments for this Thanksgiving Day. John made the pie crusts, following my sis-in-law, Leslie Laemmlen’s recipe. She is the All Time Hands Down Pie Queen. Claire mixed the pie filling following my mother, Grace’s recipe. It’s our favorite. (I’m a little embarrassed to say I was folding and organizing DfG fabric as the pies were made.) John also steamed the yams for candying this morning. I made my traditional fresh cranberry and orange relish and I added the cinnamon sugar to the pie crust scraps (our favorite part of pie-making)!
I hope you each have a fabulous Thanksgiving. This is going to be a Great Day!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Here are our family recipes:
Fresh Cranberry Relish
One bag of fresh cranberries
One whole orange
Sugar to taste (about 3/4 to 1 cup)
Chop the cranberries with pieces of orange in a food processor or pulse in a blender.
(I cut the top and bottom ends off the orange, but include the rest of the peel.)
Sometimes I add chopped apple.
Any chance of you posting Leslie’s pie crust recipe? She was two of my boy’s pre-school teacher and I know she is very talented in many areas!!! I’d love your relish recipe too!
Okie Dokie–the recipes are posted. Leslie’s crust is the BEST.
Thanks SO much!!!
Wish my pie crusts were that pretty!
