Last month, out of the blue, we received a phone call from Elder Bednar’s office asking us to come visit with him. We did. He was wonderful. At the end of about 45 minutes of questions and responses, he said, “Isn’t it wonderful how we can sit here so calmly discussing all these things, when in reality, what we are getting ready to do is blow up your life!”
Then a call came from Pres. Eyring’s office a couple of weeks later. After a wonderful 1.5 hour visit with him, he extended a call to John to serve as a Mission President somewhere in the world. I was called to be a full-time missionary in the mission we will be sent to. He told us it would be an English-speaking assignment and we would serve for 3 years, beginning July 1st, 2015.
Now we wait for a letter in the mail that will tell us where we will go. We are feeling a bit overwhelmed, but excited. Fluttery is the best word to describe what I’m feeling. And thoughtful as we consider leaving our children and home for 3 years.
But we are also excited for this new adventure and for the opportunities it will bring to share what we know and love.
Congratulations! You will do an amazing job. Do they really let you stress and prepare for about it for a year and half or did you mean July of 2015?
Oh my, that would be painful. Thanks! I changed the date.
We were just talking about you and then you sent an email informing that you’ve been called to serve The Lord for three years! We knew it wasn’t IF but WHEN! Now it’s our turn to take you to dinner before your mission! Congratulations, you’ll be incredible!
The great love you already exemplify for the Lord will be amplified. He said, “If thou lovest me thou shalt serve me and keep all my commandments.” He has called His friends and graven them upon the palms of His hands. Many will be going with you in spirit.
Thank you, Ron. That’s a comforting thought. It’s a bit scary right now.
What a wonderful blessing you will be in the life of each of your missionaries as well as countless others. Wish we had a missionary of our own who could serve under you. Thank you for your remarkable example.
Oh, Ann, I am so thrilled for you and John! The missionaries who serve under you are in for a very special treat. Thanks for the tremendous service you have rendered and will continue to do!
How very Wonderful to have the opportunity to serve the Lord 24/7 for three years! I hope that your (Ann’s ) dead people ( your kids term not mine;) will give you a leave of absence from family history. I Know there are thousands on the “other side” that will be as thrilled with your call as I am. You continue to set a example for me, Thanks and best of wishes! Joan
Elizabeth and I are SO excited for you both! Enjoy the prep time and then strap in! We’d love to chat with you by phone sometime and share our experience so far with you. SO EXCITING! Call us any time (408-858-9001).
Hooray! Congratulations!
You two will be fantastic! Pack you sewing machine and email me when you run out of fabric. More fabric is just a usps box away! I pity whoever tries to fill your shoes in DFG for he next 3 years.
Amen to the above comments!! Those sneaky pictures at the beginning of your message suggested it was one of your children who received the call. The moment I began reading your message, I knew what was coming! As I reflect on the mission presidents we have served under, what a thrill it might have been to serve with you and John. You will do well!
You will be awesome! Lucky missionaries to serve with you!
You will both be fabulous!!
A perfect call for wonderful you. Wherever you serve, the missionaries and the people will be blessed eternally , and so will you and your family. Sending love and every good wish your way.
Annette
