Our annual July Quilt Fair in Wallsburg was a great success.  It’s nice to head into the hills for a day with friends and quilts.

The Yarbage Sale is one of the big attractions.  This year I sent a couple of carloads of donations as I thinned out my sewing room.  I said farewell to my favorite childhood game:  FUNNY FELTS.  I played with those felt pieces for hours.  I don’t know that anyone wanted them here, but they are no longer filling my spaces.  The quilt guild organizers donate what doesn’t sell to other non-profits who take in fabric and craft items, so I’m hoping my felt pieces land in a nice home with another girl like me.

There were several wading pools filled with fabric scraps.  Fill a ziploc for a dollar or two!

There were also plenty of books and magazines for sale, cheap.

Gracious Karen Ashton shares her Wallsburg barn with us each year.  It’s a perfect venue.

Karen spoke to the crowd at noon in the barn. She did a really nice job, focusing on what she calls “Working Quilts,” or the quilts we give away that work to show our love and help those we love remember us. Karen is 78 now. She says she’s at the point in her life where she realizes how much she wants to be remembered by her posterity, and how important it is to leave something tangible they can wrap up in. I agree. I have way more quilts than the kids will ever want, but maybe through the generations, they’ll be passed down and my love will be felt.

I enjoyed spending a few hours here today.  Quilters are some of my favorite people.  It’s nice to be around them.
