We have had some trauma drama in our yard.  On the day before we returned from the beach, we got word that a troupe of young boys had been in the playground destroying our property.  Heidi found one of the kid’s bikes high up in a tree.  Another was torn to pieces and the metal frame was bent beyond repair.  The PlaySkool slide was pulled apart and scattered in the yard and the sandbox toys were smashed.

It was completely disheartening to see the damage when we returned home.  Who would do such a thing, and WHY?

Last week some of the boys returned.  Our kids were there and went out to talk with them.  One boy described all the things they had done (more than we realized), then he pointed his finger at a younger brother and another boy.  The boy told us that they were pretending our yard was a “Rage Room.”  When this boy’s parents were visited, the boy denied everything and denied his brother was involved.  He got off the hook just like that.

This kind of behavior is unbelievable to me.  This week I learned more about Rage Rooms.  Apparently they are a thing.  There is one a few blocks from our home.  So I went to visit it.

When I went in and approached the young man at the desk, he had to turn down the hellish music blasting in the room so he could hear me talk.  I asked him about what kids do in this place.  Thinking I was a future customer, he eagerly told me and pointed out all the different kinds of experiences you can have in a Rage Room breaking and destroying things.

I thanked him for the information, then told him why I was interested, explaining what had happened in our yard.  I told him I was sad that this kind of behavior is encouraged.  Anger and destruction is never a good idea, in my opinion.  I told him this establishment is influencing the boys in our neighborhood and that makes me SAD.  Then I left.

This whole experience left me feeling sick.  I’m sad for the parents who don’t teach their kids to respect private property.  I’m sad for the boys who get away with it.  I’m sad when bad things are made to look good in today’s world.  And I’m sad for Vivy and Lenna who lost their little bikes, bikes they had ridden in the morning, and then found broken and useless in the afternoon.

What kind of world is this???

A Rage Room is a place where you are able to smash and destroy things in a safe and controlled place. You grab a tote, fill it up with all the breakables you want, we weigh it, add it to your tab, then you head into the room, pick your tool of destruction and smash the heck out of all the stuff you chose. You smash it, and we clean it up. It doesn’t get better than that!

BEFORE YOU COME
MAKE SURE YOU ARE WEARING CLOSED TOED SHOES!!! We also recommend covering your arms and legs. We cover your face and neck with our face shield, and your hands with our gloves. It’s your responsibility to cover the rest of your skin.

Step 1.
Reserve a room and come to the coolest place in either Ogden or Salt Lake City. Once you’ve been to Smash it, you’ll know you’ve had an experience like none other.

Step 2.
Check in at the front desk, confirm your waiver, and start your tab.

Step 3.
Head on into our Smashables storage area, decide what you want to smash, and put it in your tote. Remember, you pay based off of how much your tote weighs.  ($2.50/lb.)

Step 4.
Bring your tote up to the scale, we will weigh it, and add it to your tab.

Step 5.
Time to start throwing glass in the Throw Zone (if you brought glass), or smashing in our Smash Rooms!

Step 6.
Go crazy! You break everything you want, and we clean the smash room up for you. Doesn’t get better than that!

Step 7.
Head back to the front desk to check out.
