Today is My Day

April 2006 024Many many years ago, my mother told me how she once picked a day and  every year on that day, she wrote down where she was and what she was doing at 10:00 a.m.  That intrigued my young mind.  Although I never saw my mother’s list, I wondered about it and liked the idea.

I decided to do the same.  I thought about all the lovely days in the year, and selected May 4th as My Day.  Someday I’ll go back through my journals and find my first official My Day entry sometime in the 1970s.  Rather than just record what was happening at a given time of that day, I decided to make a comprehensive journal entry every May 4th.  Some day I will pull all those entries out of my journals and put them in one place so I can see changes from year to year, side by side.  That will be fun and revealing.

So today, I will have my own private celebration.  I love May 4th.  Spring.  Flowers.  Snow-topped mountains.  The promise of summer.  Another year has passed, another is coming.  I love my life.  I love the goodness around me and I love putting that goodness into words, year after year.

You may want to do the same.  It’s never too late to start!

That is a very intriguing idea! Too bad you did not see your Mom’s list, it would have been so interesting!
